The particles were produced by a nebulizer generating fine droplets of a solution of 1-(p-Chlorphenylazo)-2-naphthol) in methanol. Scanning electron microscopy verified the temperature dependent change in particle form. It was found that the particle continued to shrink up to a temperature of 85 °C. Between 85 °C and 100 °C, a bimodal size distribution with a new mode at a mobility diameter of about 30 nm was observed. Beyond 100 °C, only this new mode remained, and no mobility transition was found at the bulk melting point of 160 °C.
