从1895—1945年的50年,是台湾历史发展进程中的一个极其关键的时期,即通常所说的日据时代,此间一方面是中国国家主权在台岛的丧失,日本殖民化的逐步加深,而另一方面是台湾经济发展从封建落后的停滞状态转变为近代资本主义时代的相对发展阶段。从城市化的角度来说,这是台湾城市化启动和初步发展的历史时期。关于此时期台湾城市化研究的成果一向甚少,本文拟以此间台湾城市化启动的历史因素、发展进程和发展特征三个层面对日据时期台湾城市化的历史进程做一深入考察,试图揭示出其城市化发生发展的全貌,期待能从中总结出一些有益的经验教训,以此为我国内地正在进行的城市化建设提供借鉴和参考。

本文共分两个部分:

第一部分:主要阐述的是1895年以前台湾城市发展的概况。

第二部分:着重论述了日据时期台湾城市化的启动及初步发展。首先从台湾殖民地经济的畸形繁荣、人口的激增、现代交通运输网络的形成等几个方面论述日据时期台湾城市化启动的历史因素;其次以1920年为界限,分为前后两个时期三个阶段,对台湾城市化进程进行全面论述;最后从城市化进程的阶段性、城市布局及城市规模、城市发展的非新兴性和城市殖民地色彩浓厚四个层面对此时期台湾城市化进程的特征进行综合论述。

结论部分:日据时期是台湾城市发展的一个非常重要的时期,台湾城市化因日本殖民势力的侵入而启动,并获得较快的发展,同时囿于台湾所处的特定历史背景和自然条件,其城市化发展水平又相对不高,仅处于中等层次水平。





The fifty years between 1895 and 1945, was the key period in the progress of Taiwan, and was usually called Japan-occupying Era. During the time, On one side China lost the sovereignty to Taiwan and Japan’s colonization went deep step by step; On the other side Taiwan’s economy development turned from the state of standstill in superstitious time to the stage of relative development in modern capitalism time. In the respect of urbanization, this was the time Taiwan’s urbanization started and got initial development. The research about this problem gets a little achievement, so the paper plans to probe into the history process of Taiwan’s urbanization in Japan-occupying Era from historical factors, growing process and characters of its start, tries to discover full view of its occurrence and development and hopes to summarize something useful so as to provide our going-on construction of urbanization with reference.

   The paper has two parts:

   The first part: to expound the general situation of city development in Taiwan before 1895.

   The second part: to discuss the start and initial progress of  Taiwan’s urbanization in Japan-occupying Era. Firstly, this part explores the historical factors of its beginning at that time from lopsided colonial economic prosperity, sharp increase of population and the formation of modern transport network of Taiwan’s urbanization; secondly the fifty years is divided into two periods and three phases by 1920, and gets a complete discussion on the course of Taiwan’s urbanization; at last, the paper makes a comprehensive survey on the characters of Taiwan’s urbanization progress, from its stage, city distribution, city scale and non-burgeoning of the course.

   Conclusion: Japan-occupying Era was an important stage in Taiwan’s city development. Taiwan’s urbanization started for Japan colonial activities and made a speed progress. At the same time the level of Taiwan’s urbanization was not high comparatively, and just in the middle.
