One-dimensional motion is assumed and the potential is represented as a series of constant steps. The method introduces discontinuities in the potential and the mass and the matching conditions need to be reformulated to take into account the presence of the field. An application is made to the calculation of the transmissivity of an electron with a sector-dependent effective mass in a nanostructure.
