The government of Japan is promoting intense competition in the form of research and development in nanotechnology in cooperation with industrial and academic circles. The Nanomaterial working Group recommended that research should focus on the five priority fields such as, nanodevices and materials for next generation communication system; materials for medical-care technology and biomaterials; generic technologies such as fabrication, analysis, simulations and novel materials with innovative physical functions. The total budget for nanotechnology research in Japan was about 82.5 billion yen in 2002 and increased to about 90.4 billion in the year 2003. 关键词: Nanotechnology;Research and development management;Project management;Strategic planning;Economic and social effects;Environmental impact;Biotechnology;Electron microscopy;Mass spectrometers;Societies and institutions;Budget control;Public policy;Japan;Industrialization;Environmental sciences
