The potential 111 Langmuir adlayers

Both techniques are based on adsorption-induced self-organization. The self-organization of cyclodextrins (CyD) formed into `nanotube structure, similar to that of CyD-polyrotaxane, was found to be induced by potential controlled adsorption on Au(111) surfaces in sodium perchlorate solution without any threaded polymer. In situ scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) revealed that the cavities of CyD faced sideward but not upward in the tubes. This ordered structure could form only under conditions where potential was controlled (-0.45 V to -0.25 V vs. SCE). Epitaxial adlayers of fullerenes (C60 and C60/C70) on Au(111) surfaces were prepared by the simple transfer of Langmuir films on air-water interface. The structures of the adlayers are essentially the same as those prepared by sublimation.
